Neumann Lecture On Music
Deborah Wong is an ethnomusicologist who holds an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where she worked with Judith Becker. Specializing in the music of Thailand and Asian America, Wong is the author of Sounding the Center: History and Aesthetics in Thai Buddhist Ritual and Speak It Louder: Asian Americans Making Music. For her Neumann Lecture, Dr. Wong will offer a series of reflections on the profound difference between listening to trauma (aurality) rather than looking at it (ocularity).
