A desert-blues musician competes with rivals, navigates the tender terrain of new love and confronts conflict with his father—in this riveting tribute to Prince’s Purple Rain set amidst the Tuareg music scene of Saharan Niger. Astride his purple motorcycle, an enigmatic guitarist (Mdou Moctar) rides into a desert town looking for fame and love, featuring mesmerizing performances by an electrifying local music scene.

Friday evening introduction and post-film discussion led by Dr. Andy McGraw, Associate Professor of Music and musician/actor Mdou Moctar.

SUNDAY: Film screening (without concert) at 7:30 p.m.
