Choro (meaning cry or lament), is a genre of popular urban Brazilian music which blends European melodies and African rhythms, emblematic of the country’s complex cultural identity. This documentary tells the music’s history, alongside soulful performances by contemporary artists who are keeping the tradition alive.

The Thursday, September 13 screening is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Brown-Alley Room of Weinstein Hall, located near parking lot U-6.

Thursday afternoon intro and discussion led by Andy McGraw, Associate Professor of Music, and Trio Brasiliero, an award-winning choro ensemble. Join us for free performance at 7pm in the Carole Weinstein International Center Commons

This screening is part of a collaboration between University of Richmond International Education, Boatwright Memorial Library’s Media Resource Center, the Global Music Series, and the Tucker-Boatwright Festival.
