Open to the campus and local community, the Festival of Lights features cultures and influences from countries throughout Asia. Guests can explore the arts, opportunities to study abroad, fellowships, music, dance, and all that our community has volunteered. Stations so far include:

  • Taiko drumming
  • Trivia hosted by Korean American Student Association 
  • Interactive exhibit on energy hosted by Office of Sustainability
  • Richmond, anime, and gaming with Bits and Pixels
  • Fellowship opportunities in Asia hosted by the Scholars and Fellowships Office
  • Wish station hosted by Asian American Student Union 
  • Calligraphy: Demonstration of Chinese, Japanese and Korean styles
  • 間 (Ma): the concept of space in Japanese landscape
  • Javanese Gamelan instruments
  • Contemplation garden and UR's Well-being building 
  • Family paper crafts and children's literature 
  • Loi Krathong: Thai festival table  
  • Local to global connections to Cambodia and Thailand hosted by EnCompass faculty & students
  • Minima: organization and minimalism experts
  • Mindfulness and meditation
  • Far-east Russian culture hosted by Slavic Club 
  • 乡愁: What Chinese students miss most while abroad 
             hosted by Chinese Students and Scholars Association
  • Study, explore and discover East Asia hosted by UR study abroad and exchange students 
  • Waseda University station hosted by Professor Tetsuhito Motoyama and Mr. Shuhei Yamamoto
  • Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
  • Fantastical Creatures on Court Robes: Political Symbolism in Late Qing Dynasty Textile (衣冠禽兽:清代末期官服补子)
              hosted by UR Museums 
  • Performance stage featuring music and dance from the UR community
