Modlin Center for the ArtsModlin Center for the Arts

The Modlin Center cherishes bringing people together to celebrate the arts. Unfortunately, bringing people together is something we cannot do at this time. In an effort to support social distancing measures recommended by the CDC, and with the health and safety of our campus and community as our top priority, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to suspend all remaining performances and events scheduled in the 2019-2020 season. We appreciate our dedicated student artists, patrons and supporters, volunteers, faculty and staff, and visiting artists, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting 2020-21 season.

The Modlin Subscriber credit-to-your-account benefit is now available to all ticket buyers. If you choose, the value of your tickets may be credited toward the purchase of future Modlin Arts Presents events. If you would like a credit to your account, please complete this form (https://forms.gle/XnsYpDzZ3QeZtcoD8), or contact the Modlin Center box office via email at modlinarts@richmond.edu or by phone at (804) 289-8980 by 5pm on Monday, March 23, 2020. If you do not wish to receive an account credit, we will begin automatically issuing refunds on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 with no additional action required. While the Modlin Center box office windows will be closed through the remainder of the season, staff will be answering email and voicemail messages. Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate this evolving situation.

While the Modlin Center may be closed, the show must go on. We have compiled an ever-growing list of organizations offering free online visual and performing arts experiences. Click here (https://modlin.richmond.edu/virtual-arts.html) to explore some of the remarkable arts available online. If you have suggestions for this list, please email modlinarts@richmond.edu with the subject line “Online Arts” or tag us on Facebook or Twitter with #onlinearts.

Fossil fuels deep in the earth become atmosphere, a glacier becomes floodwater in a basement on the other side of the world, coasts become the sea, and the sea becomes plastic. We live in an era of transient landscapes. Through creative sound art and ecoacoustics, the Transient Landscapes project connects the human imagination to the environment. Percussionist Matthew Duvall and ecoacoustician/composer Matthew Burtner lead a collective including ensemble-in-residence Eighth Blackbird, Chicago-based percussion ensemble beyond this point, and a contingent of local volunteers to combine the ephemeral presence of sound with the material quality of a glacier to create a large-scale live and interactive performance installation.
