Each year, University of Richmond Omicron Delta Kappa Executive Board chooses Last Lecture speakers who demonstrates sincere dedication to student development and contributes significantly to the academic culture at the University.

This year's lecturer is Dr. Joanne Kong, Director of Accompaniment, Department of Music. Dr. Joanne Kong, UR faculty member and internationally recognized public speaker, will address the critical impacts of COVID-19 and how it has become an inflection point in humankind’s development. The choices we make in response to this crisis will shape our destiny, with immense consequences to global health, the environment, our kindred animals, social and economic justice, identity, personal growth, and our innate sense of compassion.  In meeting the challenges of these times, we have been given a crucial opportunity to expand the awareness and realization of just how strong our collective good can be to create sustainable healing and positive change in the world.  Dr. Kong’s highly praised TEDx talk, The Power of Plant-Based Eating, filmed here at the University of Richmond in 2016, has garnered over 830,000 views.

Previous lecturers of this Series are Dr. Laura Knouse in 2019, Dr. Saif Mehkari in 2018, Dr. Jessica Flanigan in 2017, Dr. Jan French in 2016, Dr. Bill Myers in 2015, Dr. Julian Hayter in 2014, Dr. Joe Ben Hoyle in 2013, and Dr. Rick Mayes in 2009.
