Zen Room Bundle Raffle
Mental health is an important piece of wellbeing, and like many things in our lives, there are lots of dimensions to mental health, as well as a spectrum of where we fall. For some students, certain aspects of their mental health fall far enough to one side of the spectrum that they meet criteria for a mental health condition or diagnosis either for a piece of their life or for all of it. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that roughly 20% of all people in the world will qualify as someone with a mental health diagnosis at some point in their lives--that's 1 in 5 people.
For many (but not all) students who have a diagnosed mental condition, the impact of their diagnosis on their academics may be significant. If this is the case, students can apply for accommodations through the newly formed Disability Services Office--one of the 6 department resources that is a part of the Well Being Unit. Accommodations remove barriers and are meant to help level the playing field so that all students have an equal opportunity to learn and demonstrate their learning. If you have been diagnosed with any mental health condition that impacts your daily functioning (such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Bipolar I or II, Major Depressive Disorder, Panic Disorder, or any other diagnosis from a qualified professional), reaching out to Disability Services is one of many steps you can take to care for you and your mental health.
No matter where you fall on all of the dimensions of mental health, everyone can benefit from learning about mental well-being and engaging in positive mental health activities. To help bring awareness to the mental health spectrum and to encourage students to care for their mental wellbeing, Disability Services has partnered with Health Promotion to start you on the path to success with some activity ideas, as well as the chance to win your very own Zen Room Bundle to help you create a personal haven for rest and relaxation. This bundle includes a SkyLite, diffuser, and essential oil dropper so that you can drift into your Zen zone to give your mind and body the rejuvenation it deserves.
