2022 was the hottest year on record, causing unprecedented wildfires across Europe, floods in East and South Asia, and prompting the United Nations to warn the planet is “heading in the wrong direction.” And yet, humanity continues to burn fossil fuels, driving global temperatures even higher. What can be done? In this talk, Dr. Kevin Bales makes the case that modern slavery is tied deeply to environmental destruction and climate change. If we want to save the planet before it’s too late, then we must act to eradicate enslavement. By ending slavery, we can save ourselves.
