Richmond Shakespeare, led by artistic director James Ricks, is an RVA-based theater company performing classical and contemporary work, with Shakespeare as the foundation. Under different names and configurations (most recently as Quill Theater), they have been producing plays in a “loving and irreverent” manner since the 1990s. Emmy Weldon, assistant professor of stagecraft at UR with a background in experimental and activist theater, will orchestrate UR’s support for an experimental, ecologically-driven staging of As You Like It, directed by Jan Powell.

This event is part of the 2024-25 Tucker-Boatwright Festival of Literature and the Arts, “The Nature of Representation,” hosted by the English Department, and it is aligned with the Humanities Center theme question, “How (and why) do we represent nature.” The UR Humanities Centeroffers public events as well as intensive research and community-building programs, guided by our mission to collate and amplify humanities study.
