Join the Department of Journalism for a screening of As We Speak: Rap Music on Trial, which explores the history of rap music and racial bias. The film was one of 10 films in the U.S. documentary competition out of about 12,000 submissions to premiere at Sundance.

The film was produced by UR Department of Journalism alum, Sam Widdoes, '08, with consulting producer Erik Nielson, a liberal arts professor at SPCS and leading expert on the use of rap lyrics in court.

A Q&A session with Sam will follow the screening.

The documentary has been accepted by the Richmond International Film Festival and will also be shown September 29 at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture.
