It’s not just a dream: Dreamers’ Circus is returning to the Modlin to share another unforgettable concert. The ensemble consists of Nikolaj Busk (piano and accordion), Ale Carr (Nordic cittern), and Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen (violin), the latter of which Modlin audiences have also heard as the first violinist in the Danish String Quartet.
The ensemble's origin story has a dreamlike quality. Late one night in 2009 Busk pushed open the door of a bar in Copenhagen and chanced upon fiddle player Sørensen and cittern player Carr playing some traditional Nordic tunes. Spotting a piano in the corner of the room Busk joined the duo. Within minutes it became clear that there was an instant musical chemistry happening. Since that first meeting Dreamers’ Circus has toured widely, performing in their native Scandinavia as well as throughout Europe and in Japan, Australia, and North America.
The members of Dreamers’ Circus view their Nordic folk roots as a point of departure rather than a destination. The trio blends their adventurous attitude with outstanding musicianship to recast their inherited tradition into something startlingly original. You won’t want to wake up from the musical dream they bring into being.
