Arturo O’Farrill — a seven-time Grammy winner who DownBeat Magazine calls "one of our greatest living pianists" — has long been building on the substantial legacy of his father, legendary Havana-born bandleader Chico O’Farrill. His Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble is an octet of top-flight musicians devoted to honoring the many pioneers of Latin jazz while also pushing the style forward in exciting directions.
“I made one rule for myself, and I really try to live it: Play music you love, with people you love, for people you love,” O’Farrill told The New York Times. “If I can’t be that kind of musician, I’ll drive a cab. Creating music based on art and giving away from your spirit is more important than making a living.”
That spirit is sure to be on display when O'Farrill and his bandmates take to the Camp Concert Hall stage. Join us for an exquisite evening of Latin rhythms that will get your heart dancing.
O’Farrill himself has a strong existing relationship with the University of Richmond’s Department of Music, and we are delighted to have him and his ensemble in residence on campus to once again work with students and engage with the community.
