Siblings Leela and Jay Gilday hail from Canada’s Northwest Territories and make music steeped in their Dene heritage and the tight bonds of kinship. Sechile Sedare means “my younger brother, my older sister” in the Dene language — the perfect name for these artists connected by family, culture, and a gift for storytelling.
Leela is a Juno Award winner known for soaring vocals and heartfelt lyrics. As a songwriter she writes about the people and the land that led her to become the person she is today. Her voice sounds as though it comes straight from the rugged environment and vibrant culture in which she was raised.
Jay’s textured voice and skillful guitar playing perfectly complement Leela’s talents. Whether playing the guitar finger-style or flat-picked, his artistry is apparent. So, too, is the quality of voice as he relates stories that stem from his vagabond spirit.
Harmonizing in that magical way only siblings can, they share tradition, humor, and the power of storytelling. Don’t miss this duo on a rare tour to the United States.
