Franz Schubert's Winterreise, D911
William Ferguson, Tenor
Steven Philcox, Piano

Composed by Franz Schubert and set to poems by the German poet Wilhelm Müller, Winterreise ('Winter's Journey') is a song cycle for voice and piano of 24 songs. Written shortly before the composer's death at age 31, the cycle portrays a heartbroken wanderer's desolate trek through a snowy landscape, exploring themes of loss and isolation.  UR Adjunct Voice Faculty instructor, tenor William Ferguson sings this masterpiece accompanied by his long-time collaborator, pianist Steven Philcox.
