C-Suite Conversation: Matt McDermott, Heritage Family of Companies, A Division of SRS Distribution
The Robins School of Business invites you to the next installment of C-Suite Conversations, a series of engaging, educational events for our campus and the greater Richmond business community.
Join us next month for a special C-Suite Conversation, as Professor Richard Coughlan sits down with Matt McDermott to explore the strategy, growth, culture, and innovation behind one of the most successful acquisition stories in recent memory.
Home Depot’s $18.25 billion acquisition of SRS Distribution in the summer of 2024 marked one of the largest U.S. deals of the decade — and stands as the fourth-largest private equity exit in U.S. history.
How did a company founded in 2008 as a regional roofing-supply distributor evolve into a national powerhouse with verticals in landscaping (launched in 2018) and pool construction and maintenance (added in 2021), ultimately becoming an attractive acquisition target for The Home Depot?
Matt McDermott, a 2011 graduate of the Robins School of Business, played a pivotal role in that transformation. After beginning his career at Harris Williams & Co. in Richmond, McDermott joined SRS Distribution in 2014 as Director of Corporate Development and Strategy. Over the next several years, he led the launch of new business verticals, serving as President of each before being named Chief Strategy Officer in early 2023.
At the time of the acquisition, SRS had grown to employ more than 11,000 people across 780 branches, delivering to 15,000 job sites daily with a 2,500-person sales force and a fleet of 4,000 trucks. McDermott now serves as President of the Heritage Family of Companies.
We encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to visit our beautiful campus and network with leaders from across the region.
