Talk: Crafting Womanhood
Mariah Kupfner, Assistant Professor of American Studies and Public Heritage at Penn State Harrisburg, discusses the ways that the suffragists argued about (and used) needlework to further their social and political aims. Through their expertise in needlework, suffragists challenged social and political authority and promoted the cause of women’s advancement and broadened the appeal of it in the United States. Paired closely with the U.S. midterm elections, this event has broad ties for those with interests in politics, gender, politics, history, arts, craft, and needlework.
